Guest Farm Experience with Great Activities – De Zeekoe Oudtshoorn, South Africa

De Zeekoe Guest Farm is one of those places that steals your heart and leaves you with dreams of returning. This after only one visit. That’s exactly what happened to us.

We had visited De Zeekoe near Oudtshoorn about 8 years ago, after moving to South Africa. We set off on our first Klein Karoo experience. The Farm, surrounded by the famous Swartberg and Outeniqua mountains is situated only 7km outside Oudtshoorn.

We were excited to return, especially hearing about all exciting changes and upgrades.

The first impression is always the most important. On arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the cordial and helpful staff.

We stayed in the spacious garden room with adjacent deck. It has a king size bed with a mosquito net (much appreciated and needed in this area), desk, TV, mini bar fridge, tea and coffee facilities. The bathroom is part of the room, unusual but works in this set up.

We loved the large outside patio with its comfortable farmhouse style decor. Perfect for early morning coffee or late afternoon reading savouring the Karoo sunshine. The adjoining outdoor fireplace makes for cosy get-togethers on chilly nights.

This together with a well-maintained pool where guests can relax, enjoying drinks from the bar and De Zeekoe Hospitality. Cheerful Staff on hand to serve lunch, whilst you soak up the sun – Bliss.

The serenity of birdsong and river reeds gently swaying to the sound of their own beat embraces you. Like a day out of a child’s colouring book, bright yellow sun, and smell of summer lingering. This together with the sight of the mesmerizing mountains is food for the soul.

De Zeekoe offers Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. Dinner is undoubtedly the gastronomic highlight of the stay. What better way to steal your heart than with Karoo Style Food?

The Restaurant is perfectly located to salute the spectacular Karoo sunset, whilst enjoying pre-dinner drinks. Service is attentive yet unobtrusive. This attention to detail is appreciated.

The concept of pre-ordering your main meal is interesting. A buffet offers a wide variety of side dishes, from salads, grilled veggies to baked potatoes – yum. Eat as much as you like, no going to sleep hungry.

What sets De Zeekoe apart from other Guest Farms is the wide variety of outdoor activities on offer for everyone, regardless of age.

Number one of the list is definitely the Meerkat Experience (Meerkat Adventures) – that De Zeekoe is famous for. If you truly love nature, you won’t mind getting up before the sunrise to make your way to the meeting point outside of Oudtshoorn. This is where you will start your Meerkat Experience. We have done this last year and thoroughly enjoyed it. Read more about it HERE. It’s incredible to observe and follow these adorable creatures, which are part of the shy 5, in their natural habitat. Bookings essential and tour is subject to weather.

De Zeekoe has Mountain Bikes available to rent for those who fancy some cycling. Daily rate apply. Bird watching is equally popular with over 162 different bird species. Water canoeing (only in the rainy season) and fishing are other activities on offer. Don’t forget to wish upon a star, stargazing on a clear Karoo night is a must.

We spend a day on the self-guided hiking trails. Guided trails are available too.”The vegetation is remarkably diverse, featuring renossterveld, mountain fynbos, karoo-veld, spekboom veld and numerous geophytes species.” The feeling of freedom is exhilarating, highlighted by spectacular mountain views, birds, fauna and flora – despite the lack of rain in the Western Cape.

Choose De Zeekoe Guest Farm for a unique and true farm experience. Not for a night. Not for two nights but at least 3 nights to fully enjoy what the farm has to offer.

I guarantee you will return- exactly like we did!
